Wyoming Bans Gender Transition Care for Minors
  + stars: | 2024-03-22 | by ( Amy Harmon | ) www.nytimes.com   time to read: +1 min
Mark Gordon’s signature, Wyoming joins 23 other states that have passed partial or total bans on gender-affirming care in recent years. Wyoming’s bill, known as Senate File 99, was approved by lawmakers in both chambers earlier this month. Under the legislation, doctors, pharmacists and other health care providers who provide gender-affirming care could have their licenses suspended or revoked. As in other states, proponents of the measure have argued that the treatments in minors are relatively new, and that the long-term effects are not well studied. “I signed SF99 because I support the protections this bill includes for children,” Mr. Gordon said in a statement.

After much preparation, the 12-year-old's small scene turned into a big problem among school officials in Wheatland, Wyoming. Located on the eastern Wyoming plains, Wheatland is a small farming and ranching community with about 3,500 residents. There are few restaurants, no department stores — not even a local Walmart — and few performance venues besides Wheatland High School. "Unless you’re super closed-minded, I don’t see why you would do that.”Drama coach Stephanie Bradley, who also attended the high school, challenged the decision. “Most people in this part of Wyoming don’t come out early," Bradley said of LGBTQ+ teens on the state's rural plains.

David Baszucki, founder and CEO of Roblox, presents at the Roblox Developer Conference on August 10, 2019 in Burlingame, California. Roblox employees who don't want to work at the gaming company's physical office at least three days a week will need find a job elsewhere. Tuesday's announcement marks an about-face for Roblox, which told employees in May of last year that it was giving "employees the option to either come to the office regularly a few days a week, or to primarily work remotely," coming in for "quarterly get-togethers." Ultimately, however, he said working in an office strengthens the company culture and results in more innovative and productive employees. "A three-hour Group Review in person is much less exhausting than over video and brainstorming sessions are more fluid and creative," Baszucki wrote.

Meta last May opened its first retail store within its Burlingame office campus. Meta's nascent strategy to launch its own retail stores is already being undone, according to people familiar with the situation. As part of the company's metaverse strategy, the Meta Store serves mainly as a showroom for its Quest headset, where people can test out the hardware and purchase it. It was thought upon its opening to be the beginning of Meta's retail ambitions. It has also discontinued the sale of its Portal video chat device, previously part of its retail store, and will not be releasing a planned watch product.

REUTERS/Stephen LamWASHINGTON, Feb 16 (Reuters) - The top Republicans on U.S. congressional foreign affairs and armed services committees pressed Democratic President Joe Biden on Thursday to include $2 billion in military assistance grants for Taiwan in his upcoming budget request. Congressional aides said they expect Biden to release the budget on March 9. They stressed the need to support Taiwan, an independently ruled island that China views as a breakaway province. Congress late last year overwhelmingly approved legislation authorizing $10 billion - or $2 billion per year for five years - of annual FMF grants for Taiwan. The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the letter.
